Faces Of Nature - Go to Spain

Vamos a Catalunya - photos !

Here are photos from our trip, of course not all of them... but now we have to catch up on work, study and so on.. well the below was prepared really quickly. It will be improved for sure, but when? Maniana! :)

Girona - We landed in Girona airport in 4 March. Then by bus we went to Girona town - beautiful place, especially the old town with many many narrow streets. Till night we were walking along them, and as Adam said "It was great to get lost there and just walk ahead". We had here our first couch for one night, but before that we met with Marcos - couchsurfing guy who hosted Ela and Bartosz.

Girona's stone buildings. View from stairs of Cathedral in Old Town (I guess..)
When we landed, we had rainy weather - oh, it was a little cold... whats going on.. almost like in Poland! Of course that we didn't expect 30 degrees but ... !
Ha! I had many t-shirts. Even one with Spanish title - "Vamos Oeste", means like "Lets go to West", of course not exactly - should be "Vamos a Oeste", but who cares... each of us (almost) had t-shirt with different direction - copyright by Adam.

5 March - on the way from Girona to a gas station. At first we planned to go to Andalusia, where we had planned couches. So.. why don't try to hitch-hike there. Yesterday we saw the "gasolinera" with TIR tracks in the middle of the way from the Airport to Girona, so we decided to go there today and try to start hitch-hiking. We bought bus tickets to a place near the airport and then we walked and walked.. through forest, meadows, ditches... and after about two(?) hours we came to the gasolinera. We had there WC and small forest for eventually spending the night in a tent. By the way that tent was for two persons.

It turned out, that hitch-hiking is really difficul here and we also found out that we were in not a good place to doing that. One driver told us that there is a very huge TIR parking near the border with France and we should to go back to North about 70km. But before that we will try to hitch-hike here till tomorrow's siesta, when much more trucks stop here.

6 March morning - preparing a breakfast from <em>shit</em>. Of course, I could write much more about instant soups, toast bread and chinese stuff.. but I feel sick again when I start thinking about it. We have spent about 24h on waiting for a TIR which could take us to South. We had a tent, but only 2-per... you can imagine what it was mean.	The night was cold; at early morning we could see a frost on grass. Of course I took light sleeping bags... after all we are in Spain! but.. unfortunately excellent only to carrying.

We go back to Girona to the hostel in old town, totally tired, dirty... But good news - the weather seemed to be better.

6 March - Girona, We decided to spend one night in the hostel (15 &euro; per night), where we met a couple who called us <em>tired people</em> - motto of our first days in Spain.	Oh! The hostel's breakfast (in cost) was incredible. We could eat whatever we wanted! Milk, coffee, cornflakes, sandwiches with cheese, vegetables and so on... (always hungry students :) yes I think we had a rest there. At morning we also met one Polish guy from Erasmus who told us about renting a bike here, in this hostel. Full of new energy we are going to...

7 March - Barcelona, by train from Girona (6,2 &euro;). We and our baggage hadn't seen many monuments of Barcelona, we saw only these placed near of Barcelona Sant station, because we could only walk. After night in the hostel, any paid attractions would be too much expensive for our budget. Maybe next time.. who knows.

Barcelona at the night; we still didn't have any couch in Barcelona and any idea how to get to Andalusia. Yea, there are trains, buses, planes, but... ubiquitous <em>buts</em> - costs. It seemed that we will spend the night in Barcelona Sant, but before that we admired Fountain show and thought.. what to do next. We had many plans, I guess that each of us had his own, but after these few days we were almost sure in one - f*** plans! Train station is open till 00:00, after that we have to move out for 4h (it will be closed) and then we can come back. So lets go then to Old Town of Barcelona... and we did it! We saw old Town, beach and some monuments... but I dont remember which ones... I was walking like a ghost or mummy...

8 March - Salou. Touristic town with apartments of rich people; beautiful beaches and palms everywhere but.. after about ten minutes from arrival, it turned out, that we should go not to Salou, but to l'Espluga de Francoli... u.. we have next problem... and this is not the end of them - we are hungry and its Sunday at small touristic town, where people used to go to restaurant or pubs than to cheap shops. Fortunately we have found a small shop with fruits and vegetables and then made from them delicious lunch.

First sunset over the Mediterranean Sea; we have couch this night, at home of Adria's sister - Merce, very friendly and smiled girl. We met two girls from Sweden and Spain, Tania and Karla. They told us about help exchange, and in general - it was very pleasure to surf with them. We could learn many things from them.

There was so many varied shells, we could feel like in shop with souvenirs. But hey - why people except us don't collect them? Ok - no es problema para nos, mas para nos!

10 March - Merce showed us Terragona; the sun is more and more hot. Adam and me tried to avoid a suntan, even in the middle of square where we were drinking a typical Catalunyan coffee.

10 March - l'Espluga de Francoli; Mountain hiking till the night with Adria and his funny mountain-dog Beta. After this a little bit crazy running we had typical and delicious Catalunya's dinner at house of Adria and Merce parents. It turned out that tonight we'll spend at grandmother of Adria house with Karla and Tania too. Amazing woman!! No words to say how pleasant she is!

11 March - Montblanc, we have tried to hitch-hike to Reus, about 30 km far away. Our plan to pass 1000 km to Andalusia failed, so maybe this one will succeed.

11 March - on the way from Montblanc to Reus. I was left alone with hitch-hiking but I really wanted to try. After 5 km walking with my whole baggage in ditches near road and about 2 hours trying catch something - successful in gasolinera. Man with woman lifted me to Reus. They speak only Catalan, oh it was funny to tell them something. By the way, speaking with Catalan people always was funny - when we asked about direction to blabla in words like <em>"perdone, donde es blabla"</em>, they usually answered <em>"bla bla blabla bla, bla bla, derecho, bla bla.. recto, blabla bla bla ... "</em>, ye it was more elaborate, but we understood only these three words "derecho, recto, izquierda" and of course we answered back <em>"si, sisi, sii, si siii.."</em>

12 March - mountain hiking near Reus with Carlos. Amazing person, he plays the classic guitar, makes drums, travels, mountain-hiking and has incredible friends. We could met a few of them; man who has his own garden, plants, goats and is going to travel around Africa in summer for one year; or three hippie women with small, cosy house - all of them decided to live far away from civilization and noise, with mountains everywhere around. Inspiring people...

13 March - Pantano de Sant Llorenc de Montgai; on mountain-hiking with Jordi. It was so instructive hiking - Jordi was talking about plants, histories of this place, animals... we could learn so many things. Of course, I was usually busy with taking photos (sic!), I hope that the rest of our group was more concentrated.

17 March - on the way from Girona to Sant Feliu de Guixols; the last day of the trip. Adam and me decided to go to Costa Brava by bikes (10 &euro; for 8h). We had many problems with attainment the goal; sometimes the signs of route just disappeared, we were really confused - <em>"whats going on?!"</em>. But it was worthwhile going there - we saw a few nice villages, irrigation machines and many people who we invited by words "<em>adeu</em>".

Why we had to hurry up almost everywhere?! Hm.. maybe because two weeks it was too short to feel spanish maniana, maybe we wanted get to know as much as possible, who knows.. but one thing is for sure - sometimes this hurry was very exciting! And as our plans to visit Andalusia failed that maybe next time we will also get to know better Spanish Maniana. Anyway - f*** plans!

The End !
